Last week we posted our Top 5 frequently asked questions about ShoutEm, but since there are more questions asked every day, here is this week’s top 5:

1. Can Vimeo videos be played horizontally?

Yes. With the newest version of Mobilizer you can play both Youtube and Vimeo videos in landscape mode.

2. Can I link to a single Youtube video in the ShoutEm video module?

Yes. But since ShoutEm imports videos via RSS feeds, you first need to create a separate RSS video feed for this particular Youtube video.  Here are instructions for how to do this:

  • 3. Click search -> The search results should contain only your single video (unless someone else named a video ‘daD6GgRGDBg’ which is not very likely)

  • 4. Copy the URL of this search results page

3. What types of audio file formats are supported by ShoutEm’s audio podcast player?

ShoutEm’s podcast player supports the following audio formats: mp3, wav, aifc, aiff, m4a, mp4, caf, aac, aac v2. Podcasts should be formatted in standard RSS format. There are lot of good articles out there about how to make a podcast. Here is one which is easy to follow.

4. I have a cool feature in mind, will you implement it?

ShoutEm is built with user needs in mind. We’ve assembled some of the most widely used features like locations, events, social features, multimedia, etc. for you to choose from and build into your app. We regularly receive tons of great feature requests and try to prioritize adding those that are requested by the most users.  Most recently, this included forcing apps to show only custom places, offering a referral program, and supporting landscape mode for Vimeo. Please continue to let us know your thoughts and which features you would like to see. We’d love to hear from you!

5. Can I charge for my applications made with ShoutEm?

Yes. You can charge for your applications.  Even better, we do not take a cut of the revenue you generate by selling your app. All the money your app earns is yours (well, aside from the 30% cut Apple  take in iTunes. Also bear in mind that iTunes pays when app reaches minimum $250 in revenue)

If you want to charge for your app, just drop us a note with your desired pricing before you submit the app for publishing.  We’ll be upgrading our Web admin soon so that you can do this yourself.

Build your app here, and if some new questions occur, do not hesitate to ask us.
